{"id":19365,"date":"2016-08-11T04:42:34","date_gmt":"2016-08-11T08:42:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bullhorn.com\/eu\/?p=19365"},"modified":"2019-03-01T21:24:09","modified_gmt":"2019-03-01T21:24:09","slug":"uk-recruitment-trends-before-and-after-brexit-firms-see-opportunity-in-their-biggest-challenge","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bullhorn.com\/eu\/blog\/uk-recruitment-trends-before-and-after-brexit-firms-see-opportunity-in-their-biggest-challenge\/","title":{"rendered":"UK Recruitment Trends Before and After Brexit Part I: Firms See Opportunity in Their Biggest Challenge"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Despite sweeping forecasts of uncertainty for the UK recruitment industry since the UK voted to leave the EU in June, the future is looking bright for agencies across all industries. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It appears <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/news\/business\/news\/brexit-impact-recession-eu-referendum-credit-suisse-employment-job-hiring-a7136541.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">previous predictions<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> were unfounded, as agencies are generally optimistic about the challenges of the coming years and their ability to meet those challenges with their own expertise and useful technology tools.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bullhorn surveyed over 300 UK and mainland Europe recruitment firms both before and after Brexit. We learned how UK firms are responding to the current Brexit negotiations. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>What\u2019s Changed<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"200\" height=\"727\" class=\"size-full wp-image-20177 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bullhorn.com\/eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2016\/08\/Bullhorn-UK-01-2-200px.jpg\" alt=\"bullhorn-uk-01-2-200px\" \/><br \/>\n<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">After an overwhelming survey response from recruitment agencies (including everyone from CEOs to consultants), \u00a0it appears that after Brexit, the sense of optimism surrounding the industry has actually increased.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Within the next 2 years, most firms:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">expect their agencies revenue to increase <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">even more so<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> than last y<br \/>\near now that the UK has left the EU<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">expect their total number of placements to increase compared to last year<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">expect this increase to be partly due to the growth social media. <\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>What\u2019s Stayed the Same<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In both the pre- and post-Brexit surveys, recruitment pros\u2019 responses suggest the biggest challenge on people\u2019s minds is identifying qualified candidates and dealing with skill shortages (a trend we\u2019ve observed globally for many years). At the same time, this very challenge also represents the biggest source of opportunity for recruitment agencies, if they can keep up and compete with the demand for skilled workers. This also means good news for niche recruitment agencies. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Here are three trends we found:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">1. Challenge: The Search for Talent<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The data shows what you\u2019ve probably experienced yourself: There\u2019s a shortage of skilled candidates across all industries, and it\u2019s a challenge to find the right people to fill positions. In the pre-Brexit poll, 83 percent of respondents said there was a shortage of skilled candidates in the sector they recruit for. And many indicated they expect that challenge to remain for some time: In the post-Brexit poll, 65 percent of respondents said they expect a skilled-candidate shortage to persist in their sectors over the next two years.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Recruiters feel this shortage of skills is likely to be the biggest industry challenge over the next two years. Almost 40 percent said skill shortages in specialised positions will be their biggest challenge; 35 percent said a lack of candidates is the biggest challenge. Other challenges cited include social media recruiting and incorporating new technologies.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>2. Opportunity: Meeting Clients\u2019 Needs<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Both surveys found respondents to be generally optimistic about the challenges they face, possibly indicating confidence in their own skills for finding the candidates their clients need. In the post-Brexit survey, 36 percent of respondents said the shortage of specialist skills is the industry trend that represents the greatest opportunity for agency growth over the next two years. A quarter said that a lack of candidates is their greatest opportunity for growth.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>3. Technology: Closing the Gap<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Technology will continue to be important for agencies to meet these challenges and deliver results to clients. Many respondents recognised the important role technology plays in taking advantage of opportunities in the market. In the post-Brexit survey, 19 percent of respondents said that new technology \u2014 such as improved CRM platforms and sales automation \u2014 represent the greatest opportunity for agency growth, while 17 percent said social media has the greatest potential.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Most agencies already use a CRM system for candidate management; the pre-Brexit poll found that 82 percent have used one, while 17 percent do not.
