{"id":59414,"date":"2017-08-17T11:19:39","date_gmt":"2017-08-17T10:19:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bullhorn.com\/uk\/?p=59414"},"modified":"2018-04-11T21:17:56","modified_gmt":"2018-04-11T20:17:56","slug":"hosting-discussion-gdpr","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bullhorn.com\/uk\/blog\/hosting-discussion-gdpr\/","title":{"rendered":"A Discussion on GDPR: Where to Start?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b> <\/b><\/p>\n<p>A short while back, I had the pleasure of hosting a discussion on the forthcoming EU General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR), which is billed as the most significant piece of European privacy legislation in the last twenty years, to over 70 recruitment leaders.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">GDPR replaces the\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/eur-lex.europa.eu\/legal-content\/EN\/TXT\/?uri=URISERV:l14012\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">1995 EU Data Protection Directive<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, strengthening the rights that EU individuals have over their data, seeking to unify data protection laws across Europe. The regulations will come into force on 25<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">th<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> May 2018 and their effect will, we feel, present opportunities as well as challenges for the recruitment industry. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">I was joined by an expert panel as we discussed the logical starting points for all recruitment agencies; gaining explicit consent and data retention; and the systems and services that are needed to enable compliance.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The evening was extensively covered by the Recruitment Innovation Exchange and the detail of our discussion can be found <a href=\"https:\/\/www.recruitmentix.com\/content\/gdpr-where-to-start-understanding-consent-and-navigating-data-retention\/?utm_source=blog&amp;utm_medium=website\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">here<\/a>. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">I\u2019d like to thank Paul Janoo (GDPR consultant), Tania Bowers (general counsel, APSCo), and Vince McLaughlin (director of sales engineering, EMEA and APAC, Bullhorn) for joining me in the discussion.
