According to our latest <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bullhorn.com\/grid-talent-report\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">GRID Talent Trends Report<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, 66% of candidates say they\u2019ve given up on an opportunity because the process took too long. This is parlayed with the fact that talent is getting younger. Everything in the younger generation\u2019s lives has been made simpler through digital means, and new \u201ctech-first\u201d employment models are there to fulfill this new value system.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As a result of these factors, work \u2013 like many other industries \u2013 has become commoditised. In this new world of work, the candidate is in control, and they have high expectations.<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Candidates want a streamlined recruitment experience, clear and consistent communication, and, ultimately, a sense of belonging, and that happens over a series of touchpoints throughout the recruitment journey.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In order to meet these evolving talent expectations, a strong engagement strategy is essential. Agencies must focus on removing friction and connecting people as fast as possible. To talk about providing an unparalleled talent experience, Andre Mileti, Product Evangelist of Talent Experience at Bullhorn sat down with Lauren Jones, Founder of <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bullhorn.com\/marketplace\/leap-consulting-solutions\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Leap Consulting Solutions<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and Julie Haldorson, Executive VP at <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bullhorn.com\/marketplace\/parqa\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Parqa Digital Marketing<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. As you continue to improve these components and the synergy between them, you can speed up the entire process.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>Where do you begin?<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Engagement is a two-way conversation, said Haldorson: \u201cDepth of understanding of your candidate segment or segments is the first step in any engagement strategy.\u201d Candidates want to work with organisations that understand them and continually offer them value.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With all this technology at our disposal, it\u2019s important to ensure you\u2019re striking a balance between <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bullhorn.com\/products\/recruitment-automation\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">automation<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and personalisation. \u201cYou\u2019re creating a data warehouse of your human capital,\u201d said Jones, and it\u2019s important to leverage that data and have a candidate management strategy in place. \u201cHave people on relationships, and automation on repetition.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>What does successful engagement look like?<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you consider placement as the conversion, candidates won\u2019t convert after just one engagement touchpoint. Agencies must focus on creating touchpoints along the way that create a continuous engagement journey. Reading one thought leadership piece isn\u2019t a conversion, said Haldorson, but it\u2019s part of the whole engagement strategy: \u201cThe more of those micro-conversions you have, the more value you\u2019re able to provide \u2013 which is key.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Engagement also isn\u2019t just about getting views; it\u2019s about providing something of value to your candidate community. This takes a deep understanding of said community, their process, and what they need at any given point in time.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><b><i>\u201cCandidates want to be seen, they want to be understood, and they want to be happy.\u201d \u2014 Julie Haldorson<\/i><\/b><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Post-COVID, traditional corporate talent acquisition is at an average of 36 days throughout the entire hiring process, said Jones. That\u2019s a long time \u2013 so, for Jones, conversion is getting any piece of information her team didn\u2019t have before. Once her team has that, it\u2019s up to them to use it to build trust, demonstrate value, and provide a community.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Jones added that engagement best practices don\u2019t necessarily mean more advertisements or job postings. It takes understanding what\u2019s working and how best to capitalise on it.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>How is the industry faring when it comes to talent engagement?<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cI give us a C+,\u201d said Jones, pointing to low redeployment rates. According to our GRID Talent Trends Report, a third of respondents say their recruiter didn\u2019t reach out about future opportunities, including 20% of workers who actively wanted to work with their agency again. \u201cThat means that one out of three people works one time. That\u2019s a real waste of energy \u2013 and dollars.\u201d Given these statistics, said Jones, technology isn\u2019t the only answer; agency must use automation, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bullhorn.com\/blog\/supercharge-your-engagement-strategy-with-an-omnichannel-experience\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">omnichannel engagement<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and the human touch as part of one cohesive strategy.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The biggest challenge that Haldorson sees is agency not trusting their data. The human touch aspect of recruitment has been and continues to be a strength for the industry \u2013 but agency need to learn how to capitalise on their data and leverage it. For Haldorson, it comes down to developing a communication strategy and having reliable data to activate against those strategies. <\/span><b>\u201cIt\u2019s not technology that solves problems; it\u2019s the people that solve problems.\u201d<\/b><\/p>\n<h3><b>What role does content play in engagement?<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The job description is essential; it\u2019s the candidate\u2019s first impression, after all. Agencies can start there to ensure their job descriptions are engaging, bias-free, and give candidates the right impression. The better you understand the individual, the better your content will be, said Haldorson. \u201cKeep it simple,\u201d added Jones. \u201cIf you can go by that mantra, it will redefine the way you engage with talent.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>Where can chatbots be used in the engagement process?<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cI\u2019m a huge fan of chatbots,\u201d said Jones, \u201cbut with great technology comes great responsibility.\u201d Jones spoke to the value of having a chatbot to answer simple questions and provide a quick answer, and also advocated for giving candidates an option to talk directly with a recruiter for more complex conversations.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">She also pointed out that different generations will be interacting with chatbots: \u201cGiving people the opportunity to have the experience that works for them is important.\u201d Chatbots aren\u2019t here to replace human connection, added Jones; they\u2019re here to remove the friction of the application and engagement process.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cYou need to have a clear strategy of what your chatbot is for,\u201d added Haldorson. \u201cMake it clear what it can and can\u2019t do.\u201d This is where a touchpoint-based strategy comes into play \u2013 having a clear map of which responses will be provided to which questions, and where a human person will come into the conversation.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>What should agency focus on next?<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Jones spoke to the power of talent segmentation. \u201cPeople like experts,\u201d she added. \u201cIf you have an expertise, build your talent pool around that expertise. Don\u2019t be afraid to make your recruiters thought leaders.\u201d Understanding what your talent warehouse is comprised of is a profound way to beat out your competitors.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Haldorson added that she\u2019ll be focusing on content personalisation, automated technology communications, and business process automation. \u201cThe more you can connect through personalisation,\u201d Haldorson said, \u201cthe more individuals you can impact.
