Founded in 2003 by Managing Director Stephen Smith, Sirius has grown from a spare bedroom in Sydney to a national recruitment agency with a team of more than 40 recruiters. Today, Sirius operates across Sydney, Melbourne, and Brisbane, delivering recruitment services through its specialist brands: Sirius Technology (IT), Sirius People (Professional services), Industrious People (Blue collar), and Culminate Solutions (Workforce consulting). Since its inception, Sirius has built long-term client relationships and placed candidates across permanent, temporary, and contract roles. The business blends personalised service with innovative technology, including Bullhorn’s ATS/CRM, Amplify Automation and Analytics as they strive for continuous growth, collaboration, and improvement.

At the heart of Sirius is a clear purpose: to transform how businesses and individuals achieve success through exceptional talent. Further guided by a strong values-led culture and their vision of ‘Supporting People Success’ the business embraces solutions like Bullhorn to create long-term partnerships and future-proof their business.

Busy recruiters with an underused database

When Sirius first came to Bullhorn, they were looking for a more connected system. Their existing tech stack included a marketing platform that couldn’t speak to their CRM, it lacked the automation and visibility needed across their fast-growing national brands and had repeated manual processes. Bullhorn provided a platform that solved all their initial issues.

As the business scaled, a different challenge emerged. Over 23 years, Sirius had built a database of more than 725,000 candidates yet consultants were still going back to old habits. They were looking to the market first when new roles opened that could have been filled from within. Compounding that issue, Sirius’ blue-collar division, Industrious People was finding that up to 80% of applications submitted from external applicants outside of their database weren’t suitable, leaving recruiters buried in follow-ups that were time consuming and unproductive.

We didn't want to choose a system. We wanted to choose a new way of working.

Amplify helps to deliver a new way of working

“We’re constantly looking at how to evolve and scale in a way that keeps people at the centre of everything we do”, said Danielle Johnson, National Director at Sirius. So with first-hand experience of Bullhorn from a previous role, Johnson knew the platform would streamline Sirius’s processes, enhance reporting and drive consultant productivity. Smith added, “We operate a diverse business that spans award-driven casual staffing, scheduling and rostering requirements, as well as contracting and permanent recruitment. For us, Bullhorn was the best solution to meet the needs across all areas of the business. What also stood out is Bullhorn’s forward-thinking approach—something I’ve always valued in my technology partners.”

“Implementing Bullhorn Automation became a turning point. It forced us to audit and rebuild our entire sales and candidate engagement process,” explained Johanna Volos, Marketing Lead at Sirius. That process uncovered gaps, inconsistent follow-ups, and manual tasks that had been quietly limiting performance. With automation embedded, consultants were guided by structured workflows that freed their time up for higher-value work.

“We weren’t just asking what’s the best or the cheapest or what can do the most. We were asking what system is going to change how our recruiters actually work,” said Johnson.

With this solid foundation, Sirius took the next step by rolling out Bullhorn Amplify. Rather than treating AI as a back-end capability, Sirius made it deliberately visible. They introduced ‘Stephanie’, a digital avatar representing their AI-powered screening capability that’s embedded directly across their recruitment workflow. From the moment candidates apply, Amplify captures structured insights, conducts interview-style screening, and delivers summaries to recruiters. Consultants now start their day with qualified talent already identified, ready for them to contact and take them through the next steps.

Bullhorn not only supports our recruitment function it also provides first-class reporting tools for our leadership team. Our ongoing goal is to reduce administrative burden for our recruiters and sales staff, allowing them to focus on what they do best. Bullhorn helps us do that.

80% of placements from existing candidates. 13,000 hours saved.

Using Amplify, Sirius is now best in class for database utilisation, actively engaging 87.5% of their existing database. Eighty percent of placed candidates were already in Bullhorn, and those placements took an average of five days compared to around 20 days for candidates sourced fresh from external sources.

Industrious People uses ‘Stephanie’ to automate first-stage screening. It automatically filters out unsuitable candidates, only surfacing qualified applicants for review and follow-up by a consultant.

What once took 357 hours (roughly 15 days) to move a candidate from application to placement now takes just two and a half days.

Bullhorn Analytics has given Sirius real-time visibility across all key metrics. The team has achieved a 67% year-on-year increase in their temp/contract redeployment rate, while live dashboards give leaders a clear view of activities, pipeline health, conversion rates, and job coverage. This enables more targeted coaching and accurate forecasting. “Bullhorn Analytics has brought our operational, sales, and marketing strategies together under a single source of truth. It’s improved accountability, decision-making, and focus, turning data into a key driver of growth across the business,” said Johnson.

Sirius has also extended their tech stack through Bullhorn’s pre-integrated Marketplace Partners. “The integration with our payroll system (Astute Payroll) has been a major win, particularly for our temp and contract divisions. Having seamless connectivity between placement data and payroll has eliminated double-handling, reduced errors, and improved margin visibility, delivering both efficiency and financial accuracy,” Johnson explained.

Overall, Bullhorn has empowered Sirius to work smarter and focus on building relationships instead of managing manual admin tasks, which Amplify and Automation now handle. Across the business, Sirius has saved over 13,000 hours, in a year, that’s the equivalent of 6.5 years of full-time work for one person.

We're not experimenting with AI anymore. We're operating within it. And Amplify is just the start.

AI is at the centre of what comes next

Looking ahead, Sirius is going to continue expanding their use of Amplify across their entire workflow.

“Bullhorn will continue to be central to our growth plans supporting data-led decision-making, and enabling scalable, consistent processes across all brands and locations. It’s the infrastructure we need to grow smarter, not just bigger,” said Johnson.
