The Challenge

For Andrew Dodsworth, the problem was not effort, it was the cost of that effort. As SVP of The Planet Group’s ERP division, Dodsworth led a team responsible for identifying contract staffing opportunities in what he calls the “hidden market:” companies implementing, upgrading, or optimizing enterprise software systems that rarely post those roles publicly.

Finding those opportunities meant hours of manual research. Figuring out who to contact at each company required even more time, with no reliable way to know whether a prospect was already in their Bullhorn system.
Separately, preparing for his weekly team meeting consumed the better part of a full day, sometimes more. He was pulling data from multiple places inside Bullhorn to understand where the business stood so he could have a clear picture of the pipeline.

“Trying to juggle it all manually is virtually impossible. It could lead to burnout, it could lead to just excessive frustration.”

The deepest problem was the invisible pipeline. His team was working hard but didn’t have a reliable way to know how many potential clients were actively implementing their target technologies right now. Blind spots in their own CRM meant opportunities were slipping past them entirely.

The Solution

Dodworth’s approach to Bullhorn Amplify was deliberate. He blocked his calendar and spent his first session focused on a single question: Can this help me find business I don’t know about?

Within hours, he had his answer.

His first test was a current client. He asked Amplify to estimate how many SAP and Workday contract positions that company was likely hiring for beyond their current single engagement. Amplify returned an estimate, explained how it arrived at the figure, and then identified seven contacts at the company who were not already in The Planet Group’s Bullhorn system, complete with outreach recommendations and suggested messaging angles for each.

“If you’re in business development and you’ve been working with an account for quite some time, that is like gold.”

From there, his curiosity grew. He asked Amplify to identify companies that had recently signed licensing agreements with UKG — a reliable signal that implementation work, and therefore contractor demand, was likely coming. Amplify returned 10 companies, ranked by timing and fit, with recommended contacts and outreach angles for each.

Then came the moment that changed how Andrew thought about the tool entirely. He asked Amplify to cross-reference those 10 companies against The Planet Group’s Bullhorn database. Six were already in the system. Four were not.

“Those people aren’t receiving our marketing campaigns. They’re not receiving any calls from us. We have no idea who is running that system over there or what they’re doing. They could be using our competition.”

Dodsworth found additional use cases he didn’t expect Bullhorn to help him manage. It reshaped how he handles reporting and team management. Weekly meeting prep that previously consumed a full day of his time now takes roughly an hour.

Additionally, account handoffs are no longer manual and tedious. They now happen following a single prompt asking Amplify to summarize all activity at a given company. The new workflow helps account managers get up to speed immediately.

THE RESULTS

Within one week, the impact was already measurable.

40% net-new pipeline identified. That figure now shapes how Andrew directs his team’s business development activity.

Reporting time reduced from a day to an hour. Preparing for the weekly team meeting dropped from a full day of manual data gathering to roughly one hour, with Amplify surfacing where the numbers stand, what the team is missing, and suggested approaches to close the gaps.

Immediate team adoption. Rather than rolling out a memo, Dodsworth spent 40 minutes walking through live Amplify examples on the team’s Monday standup. Messages came in throughout the day from reps sharing wins and asking how to go further.

“If they see how it can provide an ROI for them with less effort, it’d be crazy not to move forward with it.”

LESSONS LEARNED

Dodworth’s advice to other staffing leaders considering Amplify:

Block your calendar and go deep first. Dodsworth spent a full day working through use cases on his own to really understand what the technology could do. That focused time gave him the fluency to demonstrate it credibly and the confidence to lead his team into it.

Learn to prompt with intention. Amplify rewards specificity. The more precisely you describe what you want — the technology, the company size, the geography, the timeframe — the more targeted and useful the output. “It’s only as smart as you are,” Dodsworth said. “You have to understand how to talk to it.”

Lead from the front. Telling your team a tool is valuable and showing them are two different things. He demonstrated Amplify live on the team’s standup, working through real accounts in real time. That single session drove more adoption than any announcement could have.

Don’t wait for the perfect use case. Dodsworth started with a simple business development question and built from there. The value compounded quickly. “I was terrified to use this last week. I had no idea where to start. I dove in, and it is really insane how fast you can get a basic level understanding.”

LOOKING AHEAD

Five days in, and Dodsworth is already building a repeatable playbook for his team: use Amplify to identify 15 net-new companies per rep that are not currently in Bullhorn, build targeted outreach campaigns for each, and execute. With the team still in early days, he expects those numbers to grow considerably as usage increases across the division.

“The possibilities seem endless at this point,” he said. “Which is kind of overwhelming, but also extremely exciting.”

For Dodsworth, the clearest sign of Amplify’s value came the morning the button briefly disappeared from his screen due to a planned product upgrade. He texted every colleague he could reach to find out what was going on. The implication was clear.

If you took Amplify away, even after working with it for just a few days, it would be a nightmare. I can’t go back to the way I was working before.
