5 Metrics on a Recruiting Dashboard You Can’t Live Without

You wouldn’t drive a car without a dashboard, so why would you run your business without one? On May 18, Bullhorn hosted a webinar on the 5 recruiting dashboards you can’t live without. Jonathan Novich, VP of Platform and Staffing Technologies, walked through a series of metrics that many Bullhorn customers use to measure critical aspects of their business.

Dashboard 1: Success Rates – Are you winning?

If your fill rate is not really where you want it to be, then the Success Rates card has the insight you need to validate these concerns and figure out where to course correct.

An annual view provides a good top-level perspective, but by drilling into each month, you can zero in on trends and compare different periods of time to determine the points at which your fill rate was above and beyond.

Dashboard 2: Response Times – Are we getting through the necessary stages?

Okay, so maybe you’ve used the Success Rates card to determine that your fill rate was really strong in January. But now you need to find out why – what similar behaviors can you use to replicate strong results? You need to use the Response Times card on the staffing dashboard to dig deeper into internal submissions, client submissions, and time-to-fill metrics. With this card, you can see the levers that you most closely control and how quickly you’re arriving at key milestones.

Let’s say January’s fill rates were strong – you might think the secret to that month’s success was incredibly quick internal and client submissions. And the card might back that up, but we all know that there are many other variables, including specific users, clients, or skills. Fortunately, you can customize the Response Times card and others to reflect particular groups, and you can make as many copies as you need to track key variables separately.

Dashboard 3: Jobs without Coverage – Are my jobs getting enough attention?

If you find that you’re not reaching the milestones mentioned above, then the next logical step is to review your Jobs without Coverage card.

If jobs are owned or assigned within your company but not acted upon, then they won’t make you any money – period. The Jobs without Coverage card not only alerts you to the gaps in your team’s coverage, but also allows you to quickly assign the jobs to someone else from the card, or close them as needed.

Dashboard 4: Jobs by Required Skill – Where are your best bets?

As jobs are being “worked” and flowing through the stages towards a fill, you can use the Jobs by Required Skill card to prioritize the jobs with which you’ve had a good track record in the past. If your fill rates for forklift operators, for instance, are historically strong, and you have a high number of forklift operator openings this year, then it might make sense to start there to make some quick placements.

Dashboard 5: Starts and Ends – When are people coming on and off assignments?

One of the best ways to look for candidates is to focus on the people you already have in your system – ideally, the candidates who are about to roll off an assignment. These Starts and Ends cards give a clear picture of who is wrapping up a job and when start times are coming up. You can even filter the cards by skill to find the exact candidates you’re looking for.

When using the Starts card, you can proactively reach out to candidates to wish them good luck or to check in with a client to see how a placement’s first day went. And if you’re leveraging Bullhorn Onboarding software, you have access to Onboarding Document Status cards that show you whether or not all candidate paperwork is filled out and up-to-date in advance of start times.


All in all, there are countless cards that you can add to your dashboard in Bullhorn. It’s a great way to visualize data that’s already captured and make it actionable.
