How Technology is Shaping the Future of Recruiting

Where is Recruiting Technology Taking Us?

From self-driving cars to robotic vacuum cleaners, automated technology promises to make our lives easier and more efficient. Similarly, in the business world, the automation of labor-intensive manual tasks can provide significant reductions in time, costs, and human error.

The technology staffing industry is certainly no exception, with a multitude of technological solutions designed to improve all manners of recruiting processes. But as the automated capabilities of these technologies steadily improve, what might the future look like for recruiters?

Here, we look at how automated recruiting technology will continue to enhance processes across four key areas of staffing

  1. Increased Gamification in Recruiting

The recent hype and hysteria surrounding Pokemon Go proved that online gaming is as popular as ever; in fact, nearly 50 percent of the world’s population plays games online. But can the advanced technology of video games be applied to the recruitment industry?

Using online gaming to assist with recruitment is not a new concept. In 2011, the Marriot Hotel chain introduced a social media game where users could put their hospitality skills to the test in their own online “restaurant,” while the U.S. Army’s use of video games to attract and engage applicants significantly improved its recruiting efforts.

However, as gaming technology continues to develop, we’re likely to see increasingly innovative ways for staffing firms to leverage the engaging format of this popular medium.

  1. More Efficient Applicant Screening

Though an essential part of the recruiting process, applicant screening can be painstaking, time-consuming, and prone to error – especially when sifting through high volumes of applications.

Automated screening solutions can help to increase efficiency by taking over manual tasks such as cross-checking factual data, flagging gaps or errors, or reviewing against predefined criteria. However, the generally “black and white” approach of algorithms means that at present, human intervention is still a necessity.

So what might the future hold for applicant screening technology? We’d expect to see screening software that’s increasingly “human” in the way it analyses and reviews job applications, presenting recruiters and hiring managers with a more holistic view of a candidate’s skills and experience.

  1. Improved Predictions for Candidate Outcomes

Making the crucial decision of which candidate is most suitable for any given role is an ongoing challenge for recruiters. So, wouldn’t it be great to have accurate insight into which applicant is most likely to prove the best fit?

By applying the advanced analytical capabilities of modern technology to the candidate selection process, recruiters would be equipped with valuable predictions to inform their decision. For example, historical data might reveal who out of a group of candidates is most likely to remain in the position for the longest time.

In addition, the labor time saved by using recruiting technology to sift through reams of data will allow recruiters to spend more time focusing on areas that rely on human interaction and involvement.

  1. The Ability to Assess Candidates in Real-World Scenarios

For recruiters, assessing a candidate’s ability to deal with particular scenarios is generally confined to the interview room. While the right interview questions can certainly help, verbal communication can only go so far.

But what if technology could help recruiters understand how their candidates might deal with these challenges in real life? By simulating real-world situations, technology could allow recruiters to more accurately analyse candidate performance in response to specific scenarios.

What’s more, this type of interactive activity would provide valuable data to help build a more well-rounded candidate profile.

Clearly, technology will continue to play a major role in the future of the recruitment industry – and if used correctly, it could make your life as a recruiter a lot easier!
